STILLWELL POWER GROUP
Power Electronics for the Electrified Future
We develop high-performance power conversion and motor-drive technologies for demanding electrification applications.
The Stillwell Power Group at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign works across converter topology, digital control, wide-bandgap devices, motor drives, multilevel and hybrid power conversion, data-center power delivery, and pulsed power.

Experimental hardware is central to our research. We design, build, control, and validate power-converter and motor-drive prototypes.
Research Areas
We combine new converter technologies with application-driven hardware, controls, and system-level design.
Electric Aviation & Motor Drives
High-power-density inverter and motor-drive architectures for high-frequency, low-inductance machines and future electrified aircraft.
Multilevel & Hybrid Conversion
Advanced multilevel, interleaved, and hybrid switched-capacitor topologies for efficiency, density, voltage capability, and waveform quality.
Data-Center Power Delivery
Compact point-of-load and intermediate-bus converters for high-current compute loads and integrated power delivery.
Pulsed Power & Emerging Systems
Lightweight power-electronic systems for pulsed loads and emerging aerospace, transportation, space, and energy applications.
