NEWS / BLOG PAGE — DO NOT PASTE REPLACEMENT BODY CODE
The site’s News menu currently points to /blog/, which is the WordPress Posts Page. WordPress generates this archive dynamically from Posts, so page-body Gutenberg content is normally not used there.
Recommended setup:
1. Dashboard -> Pages -> find the page currently titled “Blog”.
2. Rename the PAGE TITLE to “News”.
3. Keep the existing slug /blog/ for now so old links do not break.
4. Appearance -> Menus -> keep the menu label “News” and link it to /blog/.
5. Do not create a second News page unless SPG later wants a custom news landing page.
6. If the old static News page containing only the two historic external links still exists, set it to Draft/Private once you confirm it is not used by the menu.
7. Keep creating news items under Posts -> Add New. The archive will update automatically.
POST PRESENTATION RULES
– Use a short, descriptive post title.
– Use a strong featured image whenever there is a good event/research photo.
– Give images meaningful alt text.
– Use categories consistently: Success, Outreach, Fun (and add Research only if the group wants a distinct research-news category).
– Keep intros short; link to the relevant paper, event, award, or external story.
– Sidebar should follow the global site default: hidden.
PAGE SETTINGS FOR THE POSTS PAGE
– Page title: generated title should read News after renaming.
– Breadcrumbs: OFF.
– Sidebar: HIDE / use the new hidden site default.
– Featured image: not applicable to the archive page; use featured images on individual posts.
CURRENT POST COPY CLEANUP FOUND IN THE LIVE ARCHIVE
– “SPG at 2026 Grainger Power Awards”: change “Aidan Rogers” to “Aidan Rodgers.”
– “SPG 2025 Fall Dinner”: change “comradery” to “camaraderie.”
– “Joint Stillwell Group Outing Another Perfect 10”: change “Illini Men’s Gymnastic team” to “Illini Men’s Gymnastics team.”
– “Dr. Stillwell in the news”: replace the raw CBS URL displayed as link text with descriptive text such as “CBS Chicago story on CTA electricity use.”
– “Girl Power Event”: consider changing “welding!!!” to “welding” or “hands-on welding” for a more professional public-facing tone.
– Keep the group’s warm personality in News; just standardize spelling, punctuation, alt text, and link text.
